24 X 7 Thermal Monitoring for Early Fire Detection

Detect fire early, save lives and safeguard assets with Hi-Tech’s EFD Solutions

With any fire, an early response is absolutely essential. But what if you could act before the fire even ignites?
With FLIR’s active thermography, you can.

Fires that are not caught early can cause serious financial, environmental, and commercial distress for a company, and the community.

Most current fire detection systems are designed to contain a fire once it starts, which is often too late. However, using non-contact thermal monitoring, automated infrared cameras can pinpoint hot spots and provide live temperature data updates, helping stakeholders make the fast, informed decisions needed to stop devastating fires before they fully ignite. This advanced fire monitoring capability ensures potential risks are identified and mitigated before a disaster occurs.

Stay ahead of hotspots, prevent a fire

Smart thermal monitoring
Advanced thermal surveillance

There are many types of materials which are exothermic without exposure to an external stimulus. The internal temperature of such materials can increase to the point where it begins to burn spontaneously. The resulting fire and intense heat can ignite nearby material. If not caught in time, an entire warehouse or storage area and the product contained in it can be destroyed.

Although warehouses and storage areas are equipped with fire alarms and fire-fighting systems, these systems only initiate when a fire already exists. Thermal imaging helps to detect hot spots before a fire incident occurs so that the necessary measures can be taken in advance, There are different stages of fire that can be monitored by different technologies:

  • Gradual Heating : Flames and smoke have not started yet. There is only the risk of gradual warming. Despite the fact that the smoke detectors do not respond, IR camera records small changes in heating and can react early.
  • Smoke Generation: Smoke detectors respond in this phase, i.e. at the time when the smoke is generated. However, this is a risky phase where the rapid escalation of a destructive fire can occur.
  • Flare-up- In this phase, flames are visible, and smoke is generated. Special CCTV cameras and the smoke detectors respond to this. Usually, this is too late, and the loss of property or life frequently occurs.

Many fires are preventable, and that’s where FLIR early fire detection systems come in. No matter your industry, early detection keeps facilities safe, compliant, and protected.

EFD Application Areas

Coal Pile Monitoring

Coal Pile Monitoring

Coal, biomass, and waste piles often ignite deep below the surface, where rising heat and smouldering hotspots go unnoticed until it’s too late. By the time flames appear, the fire is already spreading. Our thermal monitoring systems continuously scan for early signs of combustion, spotting risks before they ignite.

Battery Storage & Charging

Battery Storage & Charging

Catch thermal runaway before it’s too late. Lithium battery fires don’t start with flames, they start with an overheating cell, spreading fast and releasing toxic smoke. By the time you see smoke, it’s already too late. Our fire protection for lithium battery storage detects dangerous heat build-up early, giving you time to act before disaster strikes.

Waste Management & Landfills

Waste Management & Landfills

Waste is potentially flammable when stored. Self-combustion, heat development due to pressure, spontaneous chemical reactions between disposals and methane gas-building are all potential fire hazards. Thermal imaging cameras can help prevent fires by identifying hot spots with potential to flare up.

Warehouses & Storage Facilities

Warehouses & Storage Facilities

From cold chain logistics to high-rack automated storage, hazardous goods rooms, and busy 3PL hubs, warehouses are full of hidden fire risks. Flammable packaging or hazardous inventory can turn a small hot spot into a major incident. EFD Systems protect people, inventory, and service levels.

Hi-Tech’s Early Fire Detection (EFD) System Can

Perform continuous thermal scans to catch hidden heat before it ignites.

Pinpoint hotspots in real time for a fast response.

Alert first responders and notify your safety systems automatically.

Perform trend analysis and assist in historical insights to improve fire prevention.

Combine thermal, gas, and smoke data for stronger protection.

Generate customized reports with thermal & visual images and trend charts.

Manage multiple locations/facilities from one platform.

Provide “lights-out” monitoring: Unlike visible image cameras, thermal imaging cameras do not require lighting to capture images.

Can also see through smoke and guide fire fighters for rescue operations.

Meeting Industry Needs

FLIR thermal imaging cameras can detect a warming-up of material early in the fire development process before forming smoke particles or flames, helping prevent fires by identifying hot spots before they flare up.

The EFD System from Hi-Tech provides the fully automated IR monitoring that includes single or multiple FLIR fixed-mount thermal cameras that can feed into cloud-based platform for real-time remote monitoring of combustible targets. A series of FLIR cameras are mounted at strategic points of the Client’s facility (e.g. a coal pile, a warehouse or an EV storage) giving the Client an immediate response in the event of a fire. Fire monitors can then examine the feed from the cameras and take corrective action, including activating the water sprinklers.

FLIR Infrared Cameras

FLIR Infrared Cameras

Infrared cameras offer early fire detection by identifying material warming before smoke or flames appear. These "hot spots" are quantified and can be monitored across multiple locations within the camera's view. When temperature thresholds are crossed, alarms alert the relevant personnel.

iTL Intelligent Gateway

iTL Intelligent Gateway

Intelligent gateways aggregate data from multiple IR cameras and sensors for real-time analysis. They can trigger local alarms and allow remote control, maintaining functionality even without an Internet connection for reliable fire detection.

In-house Software

In-house Software

The software offers secure, cloud-based monitoring for single or multi-facility setups. It features a customizable dashboard, sensor health alerts, and threshold alarms. Users can receive email, text, and voice notifications and remotely access the system with an internet connection.

Scalable (IEFD System)

Scalable (IEFD System)

IEFD system is scalable, allowing the easy addition of thermal cameras or other sensors to enhance fire detection. With a simple setup and an expansive driver library, the system is compatible with various devices and supports LoRa for long-range communication.
